Weight Loss Meal Plan for Women Over 50

Women over 50 who want a steady, bone-friendly weight loss plan at about 1,500 calories a day.

Weight Loss Meal Plan for Women Over 50

After 50, two things matter at once: keeping enough protein to support muscle mass and keeping enough calcium and vitamin D to support bone health. This 7-day weight loss meal plan for women over 50 builds both into every day at around 1,500 calories.

Meals are simple and repeatable - eggs, Greek yogurt, chicken, salmon, beans, lentils, oats, and vegetables - with protein spread across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks.

Added sugar and alcohol stay low. Use the portion guide to nudge the plan up or down without changing the foods.

Portion guide

This plan is set at about 1,500 calories a day. To eat less, drop the second snack and cut starch portions (oats, rice, quinoa, potato) by one-third. To eat more, add 1/2 cup of a whole grain or one extra ounce of protein to lunch and dinner. Protein and non-starchy vegetables stay the same at every level.

7-day meal plan

Breakfast is about 25% of daily calories, lunch about 35%, dinner about 30% and two snacks make up the rest. Nutrition values are approximate.

Frequently asked questions

How is a weight loss meal plan for women over 50 different?

It keeps protein generous at every meal to support muscle mass and features calcium- and vitamin D-rich foods for bone health. Calories sit a little lower than a standard plan while fiber stays high so meals remain filling.

How do I know if 1,500 calories a day is right for me?

Start here for a week and watch your hunger, energy, and progress. If you feel flat or are losing weight faster than about 1 pound a week, add a snack or a larger starch portion. If progress stalls, trim starch and the second snack first.

Do I need to count calories to use this meal plan for women over 50?

No. The plan is already portioned at about 1,500 calories a day, so you can follow it as written. Counting is optional and useful only if you want to fine-tune.
