Diet for Perimenopause

Women in perimenopause who want a balanced, filling eating plan at about 1,550 calories a day.

Diet for Perimenopause

This is a seven-day diet for perimenopause built around two levers that make the biggest difference: protein and fiber at every meal. The plan runs at about 1,550 calories a day.

Instead of cutting whole food groups, it keeps carbohydrates from oats, beans, quinoa, and potatoes in moderate portions and pairs them with protein so energy stays even through the afternoon.

Calcium- and vitamin D-rich foods show up daily, added sugar and alcohol stay low, and the ingredient list is entirely supermarket-standard.

Portion guide

This plan is set at about 1,550 calories a day. To eat less, drop the second snack and cut starch portions (oats, rice, quinoa, potato) by one-third. To eat more, add 1/2 cup of a whole grain or one extra ounce of protein to lunch and dinner. Protein and non-starchy vegetables stay the same at every level.

Frequently asked questions

What should I eat in perimenopause to manage weight?

Build meals around protein and fiber, keep carbohydrates in moderate portions with whole-food sources, and include calcium- and vitamin D-rich foods. This 7-day plan does all three at about 1,550 calories, leaving room for a modest calorie deficit.

Do I need to cut carbs in perimenopause?

No. Oats, beans, quinoa, potatoes, and fruit are part of every day here. Portion control and pairing carbs with protein matter far more than cutting them out.

How is a perimenopause diet plan different from a menopause plan?

The approach is similar, but this plan sits at a slightly higher calorie level, about 1,550 a day, because many women in perimenopause are still very active. Once periods stop and activity shifts, the 1,500-calorie menopause plan is a good next step.
